Bush DAC10 valve radio with bluetooth
Bush DAC10 - Vintage Valve Radio with Bluetooth
The Bush DAC10 radio was manufactured by Bush Radio in Shepherds Bush, London between 1950 and 1957. This particular set dates from early 1954 and comes with five bush-buttons - two wave band selection (MW/LW and manual tuning), two preset MW stations and one preset LW station. In order to save space inside the cabinet the DAC10 uses a very special Celestion loudspeaker (6.5 inches - 16.5 cm) which has the magnet and voice coil on the inside of the cone.
Fully restored and refurbished to full 1950's glory. This is a lovely radio with a warm and mellow sound in a moulded Bakelite case which is in great condition for its age. Really nice stylish radio with adequate MW and LW sound quality. The audio quality is much improved and augmented by the addition of a Bluetooth board which can be controlled from a mobile phone. When in Bluetooth mode the aerial and tuning sections of the radio are by-passed allowing access to the world of internet radio, podcasts and streaming.
All the original functionality of the radio has been retained to which it can be restored if required.
Technical bit : All valves (UCH42, UF41, UBC41, UL41, UY41) checked for performance, all old wax capacitors replaced in the recent past with valuable Mullard 'mustard' polyester caps which are generally very reliable, smoothing and reservoir capacitors checked, dial bulbs replaced and all controls cleaned for excellent operation. All internal mains wiring to and from the on/off switch has been replaced where required with modern silicone rubber covered stranded wire. The mains plug has been fitted with a 3A fuse. All resistors checked for correct values and changed where required. As can be seen from the picture the tuning dial is also in excellent condition, with no missing print.
Historical Note : Bush Radio worked with the 'British Wireless for the Blind Fund', founded in 1928, on producing specially adapted sets which included this 5-valve receiver first introduced in 1950. This radio proved to be a very popular choice with blind and partially sighted users as the 5 push buttons made for easy access to pre-set tuned stations and waveband selection. This radio also features an internal frame aerial.
