Roberts R200 Radio
Roberts Radio - Model R200
The Roberts R200 set was manufactured by the Roberts Radio Co.Ltd., East Molesey, Surrey, UK between 1960–1964. This particular set is a later model and has the Serial Number 112164. Price in the first year of sale was around £14 rising to £20 for later sets such as this.
The set features six transistors and receives on the MW and LW bands. It runs on a single PP9 9V battery and has an internal ferrite rod aerial and a 5 inch (12.7 cm) loudspeaker.
The attractive red case has been cleaned and polished as have all the control knobs, station dial and speaker grille. This portable set also features a turntable on the base which means it can be readily orientated to minimise interference and improve reception.
All electronic components have been tested and replaced where necessary e.g. failing germanium transistors have been replaced with modern silicon equivalents, while all out of tolerance resistors and capacitors were similarly changed along with any frayed wiring.
Reception and sensitivity are both very good on MW/LW and the set has excellent audio output quality for its size.
